Overview

Sisters Kopitiam, now rebranded as Great Kopitiam, sits comfortably in the heart of Subang Jaya, serving authentic Chinese flavors rooted deeply in Penang’s culinary heritage. Located at 11, Jalan USJ 16/2g, this unpretentious eatery is a beacon for those seeking bold, traditional tastes without the fuss of fancy décor.

The menu showcases a lineup of classic dishes, with the Char Kway Teow Special standing out as the flagship offering. Many patrons, including Penang native Kevin Yeoh, praise its faithful recreation of the street food’s original essence. Yet, feedback also reveals occasional inconsistencies, such as a slightly over-charred version that introduced bitterness, though the generous prawns still won over diners. This shows Great Kopitiam’s embrace of real, vibrant flavors that come alive with each plate.

Other highlights like Mee Curry and Hokkien Char Noodles demonstrate the kitchen’s knack for balancing spice and umami. The curry mee, appreciated for its rich broth and hearty cockle and squid pieces, transports diners to the coastal streets of Malaysia. Sisters Fried Rice and Nasi Lemak Bungkus offer homely comfort with thoughtful attention to texture and seasoning, ideal for those seeking a satisfying but straightforward meal.

While the setting reflects a modest, no-frills kopitiam environment, it serves as an authentic backdrop. It’s a space that prioritizes cuisine and comfort over elaborate aesthetics. The steady stream of loyal customers like Krystal M. indicates a crowd that values consistent quality and genuine flavors over trendiness.

Great Kopitiam appeals mostly to local food enthusiasts and traditionalists, particularly those craving flavors familiar to Penang and Malaysian Chinese cuisine. Whether you come alone or in a group, the place offers straightforward dishes that ground you in the essence of Malaysian street food culture.

In summary, Great Kopitiam channels the rustic charm and hearty fare of a classic kopitiam with a well-curated menu of Chinese Malaysian specialties. Its ability to evoke strong memories through taste ensures it remains a treasured spot for those in Subang Jaya looking for unvarnished, satisfying meals.

This restaurant is famous for their char kuey teow. But on this occassion, I felt their char kueyvteow was a bit over burnt and tasted 'bitter'. It was nice to have 3 pieces of fairly big prawns. Also ordered their curry mee, which I enjoyed. It had a liberal amount of cockle shells (meat) in it, and the curry soup was tasty. It also had quite a few pieces of sotong slices.

Main dish was delicious, the only down side is the snacks . Chicken rolls tasted bad. Curry noodles and CKT was superb though.

Had the char kuey teow and white Penang curry, both were super tasty! The spice level was just right for me and I love that they were generous with the vegetables. Will definitely come back for more!

Food's been consistent and good for many years, price is decent too. Decor may seem dull but very good for those craving for good asian food. Updated review (2025): Made another visit recently and the taste is still yummy!
